The act of registering, selling, renting, or lending SIM cards on behalf of others may be part of criminal “SIM mule” schemes is strictly prohibited under Thai law.

Opening a SIM
for someone else

It’s illegal and you can go to jail.
Don’t take money to open SIM cards for others.

Legal Consequences

For the Hirer
(Person who procures
or facilitates the transaction)

Engaging in the procurement, sale, rental, or
lending of SIM cards to others may result in:
Imprisonment for up to 5 years
and/or a fine of up to 500,000 THB

For the Contractor
(Person who registers
or transfers SIM cards)

Opening, selling, renting, or
lending SIM cards to others may result in
Imprisonment for up to 3 years
and/or a fine of up to 300,000 THB

*These actions may constitute offenses under the Royal Decree on Measures for the Prevention and Suppression of Technology Crimes B.E. 2566 (2023), including the Royal Decree (No. 2) B.E. 2568 (2025).
