QUICK Tips

Beating burnout.
You can do it.

Burnout. Many of us may think of this word when we feel exhausted from work or encounter a workload situation that drains our energy. However, did you know what burnout syndrome and the symptoms are? This article will share knowledge about this with you.

Burnout syndrome is described as a state of emotional and mental exhaustion caused by chronic workplace stress that has not been well managed. The characteristics of the syndrome include the feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion, the feelings of negativism about the job, reduced self-confidence, reduced professional efficacy, and increased mental distance from colleagues. Although burnout is not severe like depression, it can lead to poor work performance, absence, or resignation if we let this symptom stay with us for a long period of time.

Causes of burnout:

Normally burnout stems from your job. However, the causes are stress and workload. Not getting enough sleep, lack of supportive relationships, insufficient time for relaxing, or even a pessimistic view of yourself and the world are the other factors that cause burnout.

Are you on the road to burnout?

If you frequently think that everyday is a bad day, caring about your work or home life seems like a total waste of energy, nothing you do makes a difference or is appreciated and you are exhausted all time, you may be at the risk of burnout.

Dealing with burnout

Whether you recognize the warning signs of impending burnout or are trying to push through the exhaustion, continuing to do so will only cause further emotional and physical damage. Now is the time to pause and change direction by learning how you can help yourself overcome burnout and feel healthy and positive again.

Simply start everyday life by getting enough sleep, having a healthy diet, avoiding stress, and finding balance in your life. If you are too exhausted from your work, it means you need to escape from your workplace. So, look for satisfaction elsewhere. Choose activities that have nothing to do with work or whatever is causing your stress, like watching movies or series (you can check out the interesting ones on TrueID), listening to music, or cooking.

Another simple way is exercise. As we know, exercise is good not only for our body but also for our mind. If you don’t know where to start from or what kind of exercise suits you, you can try reading this article. But, if you still don’t have any idea, consult Facebook, YouTube, or Google.

Taking your time off is the other option. Just because you take breaks doesn’t mean you are broken. On the contrary, this will give you space to re-energise and enjoy time away from your working environment, and enable you to return to work refreshed with mental clarity.

Reframe your attitude towards work and try to find some value in your work. Stop thinking of negative aspects or any obstacles. Think of the goal achievement and the sweet smell of success, not the problem. Always keep in mind that every cloud has a silver lining and every obstacle is surmountable. Changing your attitude towards your job can help you regain control.

Opening up won’t make you a burden to others. So, do not hesitate to consult your boss or colleagues and be more sociable with your coworkers. However, please always remember that each person has his/her own opinion. Just open your mind. Opinions may be different but the difference is not bad. Try not to think about what’s burning you out and make the time you spend with loved ones positive and enjoyable.

There are many ways to boost up yourself and regain your passion. There must be one that suits you. Believe in yourself and positive power. Absolutely, you can regain control and awaken your power.
