Bangkok, 9 April 2026 – The Faculty of Architecture, Chulalongkorn University, and the Chulalongkorn University Academic Service Center sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with True Digital Park, Southeast Asia’s largest tech and startup hub, to drive the “Development of Innovation Districts to Support Startups through Global Model Learning” project. The initiative aims to harness the potential of high-level academic research and connect researchers, entrepreneurs, investors, and corporate entities, both locally and internationally, within a comprehensive startup ecosystem. This is further bolstered by international expertise from leading partner organizations across three nations—the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Singapore. The collaboration opens a new horizon for the exchange of experience and specialized expertise, the development of joint projects, and the facilitation of access to regional and global markets and capital. The project focuses on high-growth sectors: Future Food, Health Tech, and Green Innovation, with the ultimate objective of transforming deep-tech research into a tangible and impactful innovation-driven economic space.
This collaboration reflects a steadfast commitment to developing Thailand’s startup support ecosystem, aimed at elevating the innovation-based economy to drive the sustainable growth of Thailand’s digital economy. Through the synergy of academia, the private sector, and international partners, the initiative seeks to translate deep-seated knowledge into real-world practice and commercial scalability. Furthermore, it presents a vital opportunity to analyze gaps and success factors from three model countries:
- Utrecht, Netherlands: A prime model for developing innovation districts with a focus on sustainability and community engagement.
- Glasgow, United Kingdom: Renowned for its excellence in integrating universities with the business world to propel research into the market.
- Singapore: Distinguished by its agile policies and its capacity to attract high-level global talent.
The initiative will culminate in the development of a white paper, outlining policy recommendations and long-term strategic directions. This document will serve as a national framework to support Thai startups, fostering a robust and sustainable innovation ecosystem within Thailand.
Decoding University Research for Real-World Business Application
Under this collaboration, the Faculty of Architecture, Chulalongkorn University, together with the Chulalongkorn University Academic Service Center, will serve as a central academic institution bridging academic knowledge and deep research toward practical application within the business sector and society. Chulalongkorn University focuses on designing a “Collaborative Ecosystem,” creating an environment that interconnects individuals, organizations, and innovations through the Quadruple Helix engagement mechanism.
Associate Professor Panit Pujinda (Ph.D.), the Project Leader explained the project’s objectives “As a leader in academic research, Chulalongkorn University aims to translate lessons from global case studies and adapt them to the Thai context (Thai DNA). This is to empower Thai startups, particularly in the Future Food, Health Tech, and Green Tech clusters. The data from this study will be synthesized into a Policy Whitepaper and a 10-year roadmap to address the country’s structural challenges sustainably.”
Assistant Professor Sarayut Supsook, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Chulalongkorn University, remarked on this collaboration, “Designing and creating spaces is not limited to the physical development of a city. It also encompasses designing a collaboration ecosystem that connects people, organizations, and new ideas together. This partnership marks the beginning of the university’s expanding role from a source of knowledge to a key driver of innovation in real-world contexts, where we can continuously experiment, refine, and scale initiatives both in Bangkok and throughout the regions.”
