Telecommunication service providers are increasing challenges related to the environment and climate change, which are the result of environmental impacts and disasters. These issues demand collaboration across all sectors to prevent and mitigate their effects.

Therefore, environmental and climate change management is necessary, particularly energy management and greenhouse gas emissions reduction throughout the supply chain. It also includes climate change adaptation, such as floods and heatwaves, which can impact the stability of networks and the continuity of service provision.

Balancing business growth with environmental responsibility requires strategies for energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, water stewardship, waste management and biodiversity protection. It also involves defining measures, projects, and innovations to reduce impacts and manage natural resources efficiently.

Energy and Climate Resilience

The growing global focus on the impacts of climate change, recognize the risks and opportunities. However, True is enhancing the capabilities of its digital infrastructure by transition into a Telco-Tech company, where everything is driven and connected to electricity consumption. As a result, energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions continue to increase. True has joined the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) to assess risks and opportunities to align with TCFD recommendations and prepare to manage and adapt to climate change.

True has set ambitious climate goals, including achieving Carbon Neutrality (Scope 1 & 2) by 2030. In addition, True has committed near-term science-based targets to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% and Scope 3 emissions by 25% by 2030 and Net Zero by 2050 compared to base year 2020. Both the near-term and long-term targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), aligning with the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C pathway.

Data Center Efficiency

As digital infrastructure becomes more central to telecom operations, data centers are becoming major contributors to electricity consumption. To manage increasing energy demand and support sustainable growth, telecom companies are improving energy efficiency through better Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) and increasing share of Renewable Energy in Data Center.

Water Stewardship

True has established an ambitious target to reduce water withdrawal per unit of revenue by 45 percent by 2030, compared to base year 2020. Additionally, we assess water shortage risks using aqueduct tools developed by the World Resource Institute (WRI). True actively manages water resources by implementing a comprehensive water management plan, particularly at office buildings nationwide which are a key area of water withdrawal. Through regular water audits in each office, True identifies opportunities to improve water efficiency and implements water conservation plans. Working with a building manager to guarantee that wastewater discharged from our office buildings meets all legal requirements for treatment, ensuring its safe release into public canals without impacting nearby communities.

CIRCULAR ECONOMY: WASTE MANAGEMENT

The Company recognizes the challenge of waste generation within its operations and technology changes and actively manages waste, both general waste and electronic waste (e-waste) by implementing the principles of the circular economy and the 3Rs Framework (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle). This comprehensive approach aims to minimize waste disposal, maximize resource efficiency throughout the supply chain, and to achieve zero e-waste to landfill by 2030.

Tracking waste data, including type and weight, across the organization is essential for measuring operational efficiency and evaluating progress towards waste reduction goals. To empower employees and ensure their active participation, True implements training programs and engaging campaigns that promote awareness and proper waste separation practices.

ISO14001 :2015 STANDARD CERTIFICATION

True Corporation prioritizes environmental responsibility by implementing robust environmental management practices across its organization and operations. Demonstrating its commitment to international standards, True achieved ISO 14001:2015 certification for all its office buildings nationwide in 2024, following the successful business merger. True Corporation demonstrates its commitment to environmental sustainability through continuous monitoring and improvement. This includes regular internal and third-party audits of resource utilization (energy, water) and pollution control (waste management). Additionally, True implements annual training programs to ensure all employees understand and adhere to the requirements of the ISO 14001:2015 standard.

Biodiversity and Deforestation

As True’s business conduct across the value chain may affect the ecosystem and local biodiversity, the Company has set a goal to bring no net loss of biodiversity or forest areas and support projects with positive impacts on biodiversity where possible. True will restore or plant trees to offset tree loss due to the ongoing or future business activities by 2030.
